Why dental insurance for children?

Wobbly teeth, orthodontic treatment or regular check-ups – dental costs for children can add up quickly.

Supplementary dental insurance cushions these costs and makes high-quality materials such as ceramic fillings possible. You benefit from higher reimbursement for braces and orthodontic treatment and from support for early prevention.

German statutory health insurance only pays for orthodontics in cases of pronounced misalignment (KIG groups 3–5), and only for the basic treatment. For mild misalignments and aesthetic extras such as ceramic brackets, parents pay themselves.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about dental insurance for children

Does dental insurance for children make sense?

Usually yes – especially if misaligned teeth or jaws run in your family. Taking out a policy early secures cover before any treatment is planned. A personal consultation helps you find the right plan for your child.

From what age should I insure my child?

Most experts recommend thinking about cover from the age of three, when the milk teeth are usually fully developed.

Does the insurance pay for braces?

Yes, if orthodontics is included in the plan. Reimbursement rates and benefits vary between plans, so it is worth comparing carefully.

How much do parents still pay for braces with insurance?

Often around 10 % to 30 % of the treatment costs, depending on the plan conditions and the scope of the orthodontic treatment.

What does German statutory health insurance pay for children?

Statutory insurance only covers orthodontics for pronounced misalignments (KIG groups 3–5) and only the basic treatment. For mild misalignments and extras such as ceramic brackets, parents pay themselves.

Can I use ZahnzusatzPlus if I do not live in Germany?

No. We only advise customers who live in Germany and have German health insurance (statutory or private). The plans we compare are German supplementary dental insurance policies, which require a residence in Germany. If you have recently moved to Germany, we are happy to help you.
